MBR Systems

mbr puron bychim kimyaMembrane bioreactors (MBR) are the developed version of classical activated sludge, combining biological reactors with memberane technology. Solid- liquid separation is achieved following biological treatment through use of ultrafiltration (UF) or microfiltratin (MF) membranes instead of settling tanks. Clean filtrate water obtained from membrane bioreactors are  free of suspended solids, bacteria and viruses and ready for  re-use.

Memberane bioreactors have two different operating methods.  Internal (submerged) where the settling and filtration take place in the same tank (Koch use separate tanks fot this purpose and the membranes are submerged in the tanks), the other one, sometimes called external type, membranes are not in a tank and placed outside and  near the biological tank. As can be seen from the figure 1, hollow fiber is often preferred  (sometimes also flat sheet type membranes) for the internal (submerged) systems, tubular membranes are used for external systems.  In recent years, Submerged type  MBR systems have become prevalent in the treatment of domestic wastewaters. External systems are  mostly used for treatment of very contaminated  wastewater. mbr system

MBR Systems  are  commonly used for large capacity domestic and industrial  type installations but they are also appropriate systems especially for settlements whose flow rate is low such as hotel and holiday village, etc. It is employed in many areas for treatment of industrial wastewaters as well as common usage in reuse of domestic wastewaters. Denitrification may also be performed in MBR systems for which  Anoxic zone may be added before the aerated bioreactor. Even thogh no anoxic zone is available, anoxic zone may form in aerated reactor locally owing to high biomass concentration in aerated reactor and higher denitrification may occur compared to conventional activated sludge systems.

MBR systems is very significant development in wastewater treatment technology today, because it has many advantages in comparison with conventional methods. We can summarise these as follows. For the wastewater having low biological degradability,  high chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal is provided. The current capacities of conventional treatment system are thus increased.  Need for settling basin is eliminated. This decreases initial investment cost for a facility under construction and a reduction in the operating cost for an existing facility. As no settling basin is required,  it is a more compact system, the footprint is much smaller compared to the conventional systems. As good sludge settling feature is not so important  it is suitable for remote control.   PSH 18000 Module- A suitable environment is provided for reuse. Improved treated wastewater quality is assured. Optimum pretreatment is obtained for advanced teatment technologies such as ozone, UV, RO and NF, etc. Enables easy maintainence and mobility in transfering  installation elsewhere .  It demands less labour man power. Application areas:    where  capacity increase in conventional wastewater treatment facilities (incrasing sludge concentration) are required. for the purpose of saving and creating extra space as there is no need for last  settling basin).  For  Reuse of wastewater for industrial usage purpose it provids pretreatment fo NF, RO, Ozone and UV, reuse of waste water for irrigation purpose (removal of bacteria and suspended solid ). In addition, MBRs are also appropriate for decentralized waste water treatment applications.
