Ceramic UF and MBR Systems

As Bychim Kimya,  we  firsttime  in Turkey, use ceramic membranes in UF and  MBR systems. With the agreement we have made with Cembrane Ceramic Membrane firm with Denmark origin, we are authorized as the sole distributor for the Turkish market.  The ceramic membranes we use in our projects are made of silicone  carbide material. Please click here for more detailed info about ceramic membrane.  In many areas where polymeric membranes cannot be used for variety of reasons, such as temperature resistance or durability, ceramic membranes provide very good results. By their structures, ceramic membranes are resistant to high temperature (up to 800 C) and high pressure, therefore, it has become preferered method for treatment and reuse of process wastewater where polymeric membranes are no option. As with polymeric membranes, ceramic membranes are also utilized in ultrafiltation systems, take place in advanced treatment and water reuse. In addition, it may also be employed as MBR after combining with activated sludge system. As ceramic membranes can be operated in high flux,they need less area than polymeric membranes. Flux of ceramic membranes can go  up to 2000 lmh in clean water. As they have high durability due to their inorganic structures, removal of heavy metals like iron and mangan from underground waters is one of the areas that ceramic membrances are used frequently. One of the areas in which ceramic membrances are mostly preferred is the part before feeding of reverse osmosis. For operating at desired efficiency of RO membranes, ratio of oil- grease should be reduced to certain value.  As polymeric UF membranes could not guarantee this removal at sufficient level, businesses firstly set up very expensive systems such as DAF. Therefore, operating without any problem even in the wastewaters having high oil-grease quantity  is one of the most important preference reasons of UF membranes. Moreover, their physical life is a significant criteria for selection. Physical life of ceramic membranes exceeds 10 years.  Accordingly, even though its preliminary investment cost is slightly higher than polymeric membrane, it closes this gap with operating cost and become more profitable.

Ceramic membrane modules may be designed in a way to be sumbmerged in bioreactor in MBR units or  to be found in a   separate memberane tank.
